Known Issues

Listed below is a list of known issues and tasks that Movable Type engineers are currently working on. If you have discovered an issue with the latest Movable Type Beta, please help us by filing a bug report.

If you are using an earlier beta and encounter a problem, be sure to check our change log which chronicles issues that have been fixed and features that have been added.

  • Windows Vista and IIS Support - There is a known bug in IIS 7 that prevents all but the last cookie sent by a browser to actually be set. This affects all web applications deployed on IIS 7. This does not affect Windows Vista users using Apache, and it does not affect users using Windows Vista to access an MT blog not hosted under IIS7.
  • Rich Text and XHTML Support - The built-in rich text (or WYSIWYG) editor does not produce valid XHTML. This is a known issue and one we intend to address in the future in the following way: the rich text editor will be made completely modular so that users can easily swap in any editor they prefer. We have received lots of requests for users that have strong preferences towards a variety of different editors. We feel that by making this pluggable we will give users the greatest degree of choice and control over their editing experience.
  • 56173 - A design collapses on Confirm Publishing Configuration screen under IE6
  • 55896 - Cityscape banner images are cut off ...?
  • 55941 - IE6: Clicking 'arrow' icon broke the layout of the insert image screen
  • 56217 - Rich text editor is adding editor-content.html to relative anchor links
  • 55980 - Username isn't left-aligned in role users listing screen table
  • 56004 - [IE6] strange navigation display on Grant Permissions:Select Blogs page
  • 55776 - Save, Delete and Preview button goes up a little when clicked in IE6/7

Translation tweaks needed:

  • 56089 - L10N: Manage assets
  • 56072 - L10N: System overview - List authors
  • 56042 - L10N: Entry date
  • 56071 - L10N: TrackBack settings

When I try to list comments, I keep getting the error:

Can't locate object method "load" via package "MT::Entry" at lib/MT/App/CMS.pm line 9524.

With so many problems listed as "Known Issues" in the Beta, I'm a bit scared to try it. Also, I can't find any information about upgrading existing blogs from 3.2 to 4. It would be nice if you has a couple of sentences to say about what's involved in upgrading existing blogs... what works and what doesn't. I have a lot of time/content investing in the 3 blogs I currently host with MT 3.2 and I need to know if migrating to 4.0 is going to a dream or a nightmare.

Along with the current known issues I am interested in the integration of plugins. Although the documentation says that most plugins are backwards compatible i would like to know if there any issues with the extra fields, compare, dirify or MTSQL plugins?

Is there a pagination option or an update for mtpaginate and is there a new option to improve on notification along the lines of mt-notifier?

@mero: Can you enter this bug report in the feedback form? I'd like to investigate it further, but I'll need more info first.

TypeKey now works for mt.org.

Any ideas when it will be Vista compatible? Just made the upgrade step (jus a week before finding this announcement)
Thank You, Lutz

This is something we are working on, but we are unsure as to when we will have Vista Support ready. Stay tuned to the movabletype.org blog, we will post there when we know for sure.

Hi
My problem is, after the installation of last beta, that I'm unable to write a new entry. Am I able to come back to the prevoius 3.xx version or I need to reinstall MT?

I send the feedback, but my "bug" is not listed yet...

regards

Sorry if I bother you again, but also after installing beta 5, if I try to write a new entry I have an error:
"An error occurred
Unknown action mm_entry_edit "

@errecielle - You need to uninstall the Media Manager plugin. It does not appear to be compatible with MT4 yet.

How about PAGED VIEW function?

Just like "PAGES[15]123456789....15" navigation in the index page.

Thank you Byrne. Now it works.

Up n' running Beta5 on Vista - no big issues - only thing, User isn't recoginzed if Blog should be accessed from ie. flickr Blog API

Great !!

Using Beta 6, I am not able to republish any posts. I get an error right immediately.

It was an MTInclude that caused the problem. Pubishing is working just fine now. :)

I'm using 32bit Vista and IE7 and I can't get a cursor into the body of a post. If I edit a paste entry I don't get any information in that field either.

I also ran into an issue where Friday it was fine and I could log in and now it's redirecting me to the upgrade script and wants to run it again.

I'm using 32bit Vista and IE7 like mindtrace and I can't get a cursor into the body of a post. It is a fresh installation without any plugin.

@Pedro - This is a know issue and something we hope to have a fix for in the next Release Candidate. Stay tuned to the Change Log and to the Blog for an update.

It seems like this known-issues list is a bit stale, based on the latest changelog... is there a current version of the info?

Bold and italics are being stripped from entries and comments. I have set preferences to allow them.

After upgrading to the last beta (rc2b) I can't seem to get into the Preferences | Plugin option page anymore. MT dies with the error "Can't call method "errstr" on an undefined value at lib/MT/Component.pm line 356." Any ideas?

First of all: registering a regular Movable Type account (ie non TypeKey, OpenID etc) here doesn't work. Confirmation email is not send for some reason.

Second: MT4 RC4 produces a strange error when editing a new message created by the Upload File option. The picture shows up nice and easy in the entry but when you start to add some text the words get linked immediately. Looking at the source code tells me the text is written within the form just added by the uploaded file.

I am having the same issue Pedro is...unable to even get cursor in the text box to write an entry. Is this some kind of weird javascript error? This still hasn't been fixed?

Check to see if your StaticWebPath and your application are hosted on different domains. The rich text editor relies on an iframe that loads javascript and Browser security prevents that javascript from running if it from a different host. This has been the root cause for most users experiencing this problem.

I've been having the issue that mindtrance describes (from July 23), whereby I continue to be asked to run the upgrade script periodically. I have to run it (which, of course, deletes my search template, and when I rebuild templates to get it back means I have to redo all my other template changes again) in order to access any administrative functions; afterwards I'll be able to use the administrator for some period of time, sometimes hours, sometimes a few days, but eventually it'll ask me to run the upgrade script again. This has been happening with all the release candidates, and the two recent 4.0 releases as well.

I'm having the same issue as thom (8/27) and mindtrance (7/23) and have been unable to find any answer in the usual places. Logged in fine all this week but when I go to sign in today mt.cgi redirects to mt-upgrade.cgi and wants me to rerun the upgrade script. A couple of weeks ago I tried deleting mt-upgrade.cgi but that just breaks the whole thing when it tries to do the redirect.

I am also experiencing a problem getting a cursor in the text box of my entry posting pages. In a new entry the title box works but I can't click on the entry body text area to start typing. On previous entries, the title appears but the entry body text area is blank and I still cannot click on it.

My StaticWebPath is on the same domain as my application. The oddest thing is that the problem seems sporadic: on one of my computers, I consistently have the problem in Firefox, but IE sometimes works. On my other computer, I have no problem at all with either browser. Both PCs are running Windows XP.

This is a relatively serious problem as it significantly detracts from my ability to post to my blog. Is there any new information on this issue, or at least any indication of when it will be resolved?

A follow-up to my note of 9/8 above: I upgraded to MT 4.01 and this seems to have solved my issue of it constantly wanting me to run the upgrade script. Yay!
