Holy Syntax Highlighting Batman!

By Byrne Reese
Posted June 14, 2007.

Last week we showed you a sneak peak of a feature we added to MT4 to make debugging templates easier and faster. Arvind responded with his usual enthusiasm:

"This is a fantastic feature, it will prove to be very useful indeed :) Great work team (though a feature request, those line numbers in the error messages would be even more useful if the textarea had line numbers down the side."
Your wish Arvind, is our command. In Beta 3 (updated: the next possible beta) not only will we give you your precious line numbers, we will give you full syntax highlighting, compliments of David Davis and CodePress.

Can you say "hawt?!" We can. Oh. Yes. We. Can.

Holy crap you guys just blew my mind! As demonsurfer pointed out, there is no need to use an external editor now!!! Keep this up and I may end up paying for the Personal - 1 Year Support Contract (instead of the free Personal License I go with now). I don’t need it, but will want to support this product even more as it’s simply becoming an amazing beast of a program.

Ohhhh this is getting nice. Now it might just be easier to fix my errors.

Btw is there a place where we can submit plugin ideas once the core features are set in stone (and nothing new is added) and we have to rely on those who can actually write plugins?

I’m speechless, well and truly speechless.

Now /this/ (along with the error reporting) is a killer feature. See, it’s little touches like this one that will help make MT a powerful tool.

Sara: Please use ProNet to bounce around plugin ideas. Having the majority of my plugins gobbled up by MT4, I’m definitely interested in some new ones!

I’m not sure which of the previous commenters I agree with more. But I emphatically agree. You guys are tearing it up over there… Keep it coming!

It is really annoying to search for a mistake just to find out you have missed a single slash or something like that. It is great saving time tool to have a highlight on all the mistakes you’ve made.

Kirsten it is probably because your code is correct lol :) This is a great add-on to Moveable Type. I am quite sure the other main Content management systems haven’t this feature.
