One more reason to buy an iPhone

For a long time now I have been one of those iPhone hold outs that insists on waiting for the next generation before taking the iPhone plunge. But today could be the tipping point for me and many other Movable Type users like me.

Today we are happy to announce Movable Type for the iPhone and iPod Touch, made possible through a plugin developed by Brad Choate that makes use of the design developed by Walt Dickinson for TypePad. The plugin works by installing an alternate template set that is automatically used in place of the primary Movable Type user interface when the application is accessed via an iPhone or iPod Touch. The integration with Movable Type is totally seamless.

iMT (Movable Type for iPhone)

Walt has done an amazing job creating a truly thoughtful user experience. He certainly had the option to just boil down the application to a smaller, more browsable version of itself. But he didn't. Instead Walt designed the ideal user experience for iPhone from scratch. He created custom graphics, layouts and entirely new screens for the application in order to make this plugin feel like a completely native iPhone application.

The plugin, and its design, is completely free and open source. It is available through our plugin directory or from code.sixapart.com.

I installed the plugin yesterday and it works but I can’t see any graphics. Is anyone else having this problem? I can’t tell where Mobile Safari is pulling the images from so I can fix it.

My mt-static directory is outside of the cgi-bin/mt but is still accessible by the webserver (all other plugins work fine).

This was the final straw that just made me return to Movable Type after using Wordpress for a few years. MT 4 is amazing. Great job!

I have downloaded the latest version of this plugin but still am not seeing the graphics/proper display on my iPhone. I’ve move the mt-static files to the plugins directory of mt-static and moved the plugins files to the /mt/plugins directory under /scgi-bin.

Interestingly if I do drill down into my blog and click to pick from the list of categories I do see the graphical scroll wheel representation of my categories.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Hey there…I am not seeming to find a good place to find the answer to my question/ask for more info, so here seems like a good place.

I (think I have correctly) installed iMT and successfully posted a text entry to my MT4 blog via my iPhone. My question is, is there a way to mobile post photo entries using iMT from the iPhone? Or does iMT only support text at the moment for new entries?

Thanks!

Jon C.: The only way to send pictures from your iPhone (other than syncing them to your computer) is to e-mail them. And there’s no means to add a file field to the iPhone posting UI— Mobile Safari just ignores them. So… for now, it only supports text.

Hi, this is a valuable plugin. Will there ever be a way to include an image taken on the iphone into a blog entry post? Wordpress has the email-to-post option, and iphone allows you to email 1 image making it easy to post text and image. I’m looking for the equivalent to MT.

I’ve found that the best way to get photos posted to my blog from the iPhone is via my Flickr account. If you have one, you can set up an email address to send your iPhone pics to, and then log into Flickr, set up an RPC connection to your blog and from then on you can post any of your Flickr images to your MT blog. All easily done via Mobile Safari.

I like the plugin, but would like to see a Publish All button in the next version so if I screw up on my entries I can delete and republish on the go.

Nice work!

We can only see 10 of our 20+ blogs. Is there a way to scroll the list or is 10 the max?

Are you specifically looking for a plugin to transform the published web site?

I just started using the iMT plugin and I’m encountering weird behavior when I try to edit my blog entries via iPhone. The body and extended textareas won’t show more content than fits in the default text area size. See screenshot for details: http://img.skitch.com/20080822-xqyg2a5kr8spmfmqfcpq5pa8w4.jpg

This effectively makes this plugin useless for editing posts with more than 220 characters in the body or extended body. Is there a way to officially report this bug?

This might be a silly question Jan but the iPhone application for Movable Type should also work on the non-phone version of the device called the iPod Touch I think, I’m just trying to get a hang of these new touchscreen devices and how they operate - technology has come a long way, there was a time when you didn’t think you could have an object that could fit into your pocket and allow you to make phone calls to anyone in the world, but now you can do that and even access any webpage or site and information.. what next?

Funny, I am not going to give Apple money even if the new iPhone is as wonderful as they say.
