We’ve determined that there are a few issues we need to resolve in Movable Type 5 before the official worldwide launch.
In order to resolve these issues and due to the holiday season, the release of Movable Type 5 has been postponed untill January 5th, 2010.
The latest release candidate builds of Movable Type 5 are available:
- Movable Type 5.0 Pro Betas (available in English, German, Spanish, Dutch and French.)
Warning! - This beta software is not recommended for any production environment.
Between now and Jan 5th we’ll be producing new documentation and updating existing documentation. We’ll be highlighting new documentation on this blog, you can find the latest updates on the following pages:

Jeez, I deeply admire 6A's courage to postpone a product that is not quite ready for release, but don't do this again, will you. Better not mention any release date instead of giving them dates to your devs. I told some of my clients to wait a bit longer with their site update 'cause MT5 was just around the corner. Had to tell them twice to wait some more. They 're not amused. And I don't blame them.

I don't quite understand this. Is MT5 RC3 the same code as the final release and now you just need to update documentation? If that is the case, can I just start now with RC3 and upgrade it later to the final release? I would like to see the relaunch of a site for 1/1/10 come true, especially if you're not going to change any code (in which case I would gladly take the "risk" of running pre-release software).

Given all options, postponing this release was the option which would allow Six Apart to launch a product with a standard of quality we can certify as production ready.
@perlmonkey - I can't officially recommend using MT5rc3 in a production environment, however the planned changes shouldn't cause any issues when upgrading from MT5rc3 to the production release of MT5.

I've also had to keep telling people my first MT5 theme is coming soon but then getting delays. I think it's important to make sure a product is as bug free as possible but what I am waiting for is NEW MT5 documentation with enough details and examples for developing new themes and templates etc. This is very critical and I really hope this is available when you release MT5. I am actually at a stand-still because there is no info docs on things relating to my first theme design. This yaml is also driving me nuts. Anyway, hopefully when MT5 does go live, it will be stable. Cheers.

I've been patiently waiting too -- had to delay some projects. I think I will do what an above poster said: start with RC3 and then upgrade to MT5 final release whenever it comes out. I just hope the upgrade from a BETA to FINAL will be smooth. While you're at it make some docs about upgrading from RC3. :)
