Getting Started: Action Streams

Creating a New Blog

Refer to the document Creating A New Blog for tips on creating your new blog. In the “Theme” dropdown, choose “Action Streams”.


Select Action Streams Theme

After you’ve created your blog, republish the blog. If you’ve already registered with a service that reflects activity in an action stream, you should see evidence of the republished page in your action list.




Action Stream Template Set


Indexes

  • Action Archive
    Outputs thirty days worth of actions. Specifically, the thirty day period covers the thirty days prior to the republishing of the blog. Outputted actions are separated by date.

  • Style Sheet
    The style sheet is identical to the default blog template set but adds a style definition for action streams. In the “Style” menu, you can choose styles and change designs.

  • Feed: Recent Activity
    This is a recent action feed. Can deliver reports of activity in various services.

  • Main Index (Recent Action)
    Outputs five days worth of actions. Specifically, the five day period covers the five days prior to republishing. Outputted actions are separated by date.


Template Modules

  • HTML header
    Header that appears in all outputted HTML files. Same as in the existing blog template set

  • Sidebar
    Module that loads the “2 Column Side Bar” widget set.

  • Banner Footer
    Footer that appears in all outputted HTML files. Same as in the existing blog template set.

  • Banner Header
    Header that appears in all outputted HTML files.  Same as in the existing blog template set.

Widgets

  • User’s Services
    A summary of all registered services. Each service contains a link to the user’s page. Included in the “2 Column Side Bar” widget during installation.

  • User’s Action Streams
    Widget that lists recent actions.  Not used during installation.


Index Template Publishing Settings

Output frequent action stream events by choosing settings that regularly republish the index template.

Follow these steps to activate these settings:

  1.  In the blog menu’s “Tools”, choose “Plugins”, and on the “Plugins Settings” page, make Action Streams plugin settings.
  2. On the “Plugin Settings” page, click “Action Streams x.x” in the list of plugins.
  3. A plugin menu will appear. Click “Settings.” 
  4. Next to where it says “Republish Index”, check “Activate Republishing”, and click the “Save Changes” button.
