Custom Field Display Options

The display of custom fields within the edit forms for various objects can easily be customized.

First, to toggle the visibility of specific fields within the user interface for Entries for example, select “Display Options” and click the checkbox next to each field you wish to be visible.

Note: making a field invisible will not harm or modify the content it contains.

You may also re-order the display of fields on the page by expanding the “Re-order” widget in the side bar. You can then drag, drop and place the fields in the order you prefer.

I’m running on v4.31, but I couldn’t find that “re-order” widget.

Where is it located?

In 5.01, new fields added are not displayed by default. You must select the fields in the “Display Options” checkboxes after adding them to display them. These checkboxes may also be re-ordered by dragging and dropping.

I would like to clarify something related to reordering custom fields.

The phrase “expanding the “Re-order” widget in the side bar” from this page confused me a bit.

The process is as simple as going inside an entry from a specific blog, then clicking on “Display Options” and dragging-and-dropping the fields until you get the custom order you’re interested on.

This custom order setting should be applied for each movable type user, and for each blog.

So, after creating a new movable type user, you would have to login as that user and set the custom ordering…

Kind Regards,

Hi Mihai,

Is there no logic to the default order of the display? I have 20-30 users accessing a blog and I have to go into each account and set the display options?

There must be another way to have the custom fields appear in a logical sense.
