Welcome to the new movabletype.org

Welcome to the new movabletype.org, the ever-evolving community site and hub for the Movable Type user, developer, designer and professional. Movabletype.org (powered by MT4) is also the home and source of the most-up-to-date information on builds and source code for the Movable Type 4 Beta.

Since you're probably here for the key facts, let's jump right in with the links you need:

Now that you have those links, we thought we'd take this opportunity to talk a little bit about how the beta will work. In the olden days a "beta" referred to a time period that allowed users to test and evaluate software before it was released generally to customers.  To quote the all-knowing Wikipedia:  "A beta version is the first version released outside the organization or community that develops the software, for the purpose of evaluation or real-world black/grey-box testing."

So, what does this mean for you?  It means that because this is the Movable Type 4 beta, you should expect to encounter bugs and issues, and you shouldn't use Movable Type 4 in a production environment or context.  But it also means that we're looking for feedback. Your feedback and bug reports will help us make the official release of Movable Type 4 great.  When you're using the beta, look for the "Send Feedback" link in the top navigation; it will take you straight to the feedback form.

Once you download the beta, we highly recommend that you subscribe to this blog's RSS feed, so that you can stay up-to-date on bug fixes, feedback reports and releases.  In the coming days we'll be making our nightly builds available, and we'll also be scheduling regular official beta builds and keeping our known issues list up to date.

Movabletype.org is also home to the Movable Type Open Source Project.  We'll be releasing an open source distribution of Movable Type later this summer; in the meantime you can get involved by joining the MTOS-dev and MTOS-announce mailing lists and contributing your ideas about how the Movable Type community can benefit from an open source distribution.

Finally, we couldn't be more excited about MT4 and the future of Movable Type.  We can't wait to grow the product, this site and, most importantly, the community of Movable Type users and developers here at movabletype.org.

Please explain how can I join MTOS announce mailing lists, because I am very new in coding, but I want to learn. A friend of mine told me that Moveable Type is among the best CMS presented now and probably the best to learn from. He told me about you beta and demo versions where everybody can participate. This is why I want to have your announcements and everything connected with coding on MT. Thank you in advance.
